Basmati Rice
This is very light and fragrant rice. I'm not a fan of white rice but I enjoy this rice. Believe it or not, there are several health benefits of Basmati Rice. Take a look at the link below or check out one for yourself:
Health benefits of basmati riceIngredients:
- 1 cup Basmati rice
- 3 tablespoons olive oil
- 14 oz. chicken or vegetable broth
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1/2 cup red bell pepper, finely chopped
- 1/2 cup green bell pepper, finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, finely chopped
- 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
- 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
Directions:
- In a large skillet, cook onions and bell pepper in olive oil for about 5 minutes
- Add chopped garlic, continue cooking for about 5 minutes
- Add rice and cook 2 more minutes
- Add roasted garlic chicken or vegetable broth and remaining seasonings
- Cover and simmer for about 15-20 minutes
Twist: Used Turmeric in place of saffron. Turmeric which has become known as Indian saffron is widely used as an alternative to the expensive saffron spice.
